1999 Foliage Report
#17
October 27, 1999 This year's foliage season is gradually coming to an end in the Northeast. Nearly all of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and eastern New York are now past peak. It is important to note, however, that past peak does not imply that all leaves are off of the trees. Many areas in the past peak region still have foliage to view. Much of the remaining areas are reporting peak colors, the exceptions being southwestern and southeastern Pennsylvania, much of southern New Jersey, and Long Island in New York State. These areas are reporting either high or moderate color. Windy conditions have caused leaf drop to increase throughout the Northeast. Western Maine is, to this point, the only area reporting complete leaf drop. Much of northern New England is reporting nearly complete leaf drop, as well as northern New York, the Catskill Mountain region of New York, northeastern and southwestern Pennsylvania. Other areas are experiencing moderate to high leaf drop.
