1999 Foliage Report #4

September 11, 1999
Rain, rain, and more rain, that is what nearly the entire Northeast contended with this past week (September 6 - September 10, 1999). Not much has changed since report #3. Connecticut is now reporting at least low color throughout the state. More color has been reported in sections of the Green and White Mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. Leaf drop has stayed nearly the same as that in report #3. Portions of the southern tier in New York have reported low leaf drop as have northern sections of New Hampshire.

Here are some of the rainfall totals from 09/06/99 - 09/10/99:
Williamsport, Pennsylvania - 7.32"
Boston, Massachusetts - 5.45"
Hartford, Connecticut - 3.76"
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - 3.60"
Burlington, Vermont - 3.55"
Worcester, Massachusetts - 3.29"
Providence, Rhode Island - 2.99"
Albany, New York - 2.29"
Bridgeport, Connecticut - 2.17"
Central Park, New York City, New York - 2.11"

The rain should help the drought stricken trees. Now we will be hoping for dry, mild days, and cool, but not freezing evenings to usher in the beautiful autumn colors.
