Reports Archive - 2002

October 2, 2002 Mother Nature cannot seem to decide which season it is. This indecision is playing havoc with this year's foliage season. Many areas are running one to two weeks late due to unseasonable temperatures. And with more mild temperatures early this week, this delay could continue. The Northeast will also be on the lookout this weekend for the possibility of the remnants of Hurricane Lili lurching up the eastern seaboard, bringing with it possibly heavy rains and gusty winds. Foliage color change is beginning to pick up a bit in northern Maine, portions of northern and western New Hampshire, northeastern and central Vermont and portions of the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains in New York. Color change in these areas is mostly moderate (31 to 60 percent) with limited reports of high color (61 to 80 percent). Elsewhere in the region, low color (11 to 30 percent) rules with limited areas still reporting very low color. Leaf drop continues to be very low to low with spotty reports of moderate leaf drop in extreme western New York. This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network.
