October 5, 2002 The fall colors are beginning to pop in much of northern New England. High color (61 to 80 percent) is now being seen in the northwestern corner of Maine, extreme northern New Hampshire, portions of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, the higher elevations of the Green Mountains in Vermont and the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains of New York. The remainder of northern New England and New York and portions of the southern tier of New York are reporting moderate color (31 to 60 percent). Other areas in the Northeast are mostly reporting low color (11 to 30 percent) with a few locations still reporting very low color (1 to 10 percent). Leaf drop is mostly low with limited areas reporting very low leaf drop and moderate leaf drop. This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network.
