October 19, 2002 Northern New England and many locations in New York are displaying great fall color with conditions mostly in the high (61 to 80 percent) to peak range. Now is the time to get out and enjoy the foliage in much of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains in New York, western New York, western Massachusetts and portions of northeastern Pennsylvania. Those areas not in the high to peak color range are mostly reporting moderate color (31 to 60 percent). If you are looking for some scenic drives, check out the following. In Maine: Route 201 along Wyman lake to West Forks, ME; Route 4 from Rangeley, ME east to Farmington, ME. In Vermont: Route 2 from the New Hampshire border west to Montpelier, VT. Route 16 from Barton, VT south to Route 15; Historic Route 7A in southern Vermont; anywhere on Route 100 which runs north to south throughout Vermont. In New York: Route 28 from Old Forge, NY to Blue Mountain Lake, NY; Route 30 from Long Lake, NY north to Tupper Lake, NY; Route 73 from Route 87 to Saranac Lake, NY; Route 28 from Route 357 to Phoenicia, NY; Route 12 from Sherburne, NY south to Binghamton, NY.
