Reports Archive - 2002
Northeast United States |
October 30, 2002 The strange 2002 foliage season continues. Many areas in the Northeast reporting peak and past peak conditions still have some completely green trees! Peak conditions (if there is such a thing this season) can be found in coastal Maine, southern New Hampshire and much of New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. In New Jersey, peak has been reported in the mountains in the northwestern corner of the state. The balance of New Jersey and much of coastal southern New England has yet to reach the height of the color change. In northern New England, peak has passed as it has in northern New York, parts of the southern tier of New York and sporadic areas in western Massachusetts and northwestern Pennsylvania. Leaf drop is mostly high in the region, with nearly complete drop in areas that have past peak and moderate leaf drop in the southern reaches of the Northeast. If you are looking for some scenic drives, check out the following. In Maine: Anywhere along Route 1 along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. In New Hampshire: Route 11 from Farmington to Glendale; Route 109 from Brookfield to Sandwich; Route 11 from Claremont to Sunapee. In New York: Route 17 between Binghamton to Monticello; Route 12 from Norwich to Binghamton; Route 3 from Watertown to Fulton; Route 20 from Buffalo to the Pennsylvania state line. In Pennsylvania: Route 171 from Lanesboro to Union Dale; Route 29 from the New York state line to Punkhannock. This information provided by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network.
