A very strong cold front moved through the area late last week bringing heavy rain and very strong winds (some gusting over 70 mph). While some branches and trees were downed, the overall impact on the leaves was minimal, thanks to a slow onset of color change. Had this occurred with widespread high and peak color, the season would have been cut short. So, all you leaf peepers dodged a bullet!
We are finally seeing some fall colors pop in northern New England where moderate color (31% - 60% change) has been observed. These areas include northern Maine, the higher elevations of northern New Hampshire and portions of north-central Vermont. The Adirondacks in northern New York are also crossing into the moderate range. Elsewhere in the Northeast, color is mostly low (11% - 30% change).
Leaf drop in low to very low throughout the region.
