This weekend is not going to spell good news for the foliage in the Northeast. A strong storm will bring heavy rains and gusty winds, the combination of which will bring down many leaves. Peak has already passed in Maine, Vermont, most of New Hampshire and New York, and northern sections of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The same holds true for much of the western half of Massachusetts and northwestern Connecticut. Foliage is at peak in coastal New Hampshire, eastern Massachusetts, much of Connecticut, Rhode Island, central and southern Pennsylvania, downstate New York and central New Jersey. Southern New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania are reporting high color.
Leaf drop is high to nearly complete in those areas past peak. Elsewhere, leaf drop is mostly moderate.
