Downeast & Acadia
|
If you like the water, whether river or ocean; if
you like nature in its rugged beauty; if you like salty sea air tinged with the
smell of blueberries; or if you like peaceful coves for some quiet time, then the
Downeast & Acadia Region is for you. Here there are freshwater lakes, whitewater
rivers, the highest tides in the country along with their crashing surf, and those
peaceful coves. History abounds here: St Croix Island, the landing site of the
French in the New World; the first naval encounter of the Revolutionary War took
place here; architecturally historic homes cover the area. Spend time in friendly
villages, browse in shops and galleries, venture in nature's preserves and wildlife
refuges, go fishing, canoeing, or kayaking. Most of all enjoy yourself. You will!

Maine Lakes & Mountains
|
While this region seems to speak to the sports-minded
with its bountiful lakes and fish-filled rivers for the fishermen or boating
enthusiasts and swimmers, or the challenging, exciting slopes for the skiers,or
groomed winter trails for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, or the numerous
trails, including the Appalachian Trail, for hikers and nature lovers, there remains
much for families to see and experience. Countrysides and mountains glimmering in
the fall with Mother Nature's brilliant painting of the trees, or antique and
arts/crafts shops, country fairs, covered bridges, general stores, historic sites
and museums are an adventure for the young and old alike. A vacation wonderland.

Mid-Coast
|
The Mid-Coast Region's beauty lies in a picturesque
blend of traditional fishing villages and cosmopolitan towns; large resorts and
cozy inns; lobster-in -the-rough and fine restaurants; art galleries and boutiques;
antiques and flea markets; museums and historic structures; five-masted schooners
to modern cruisers, and past history to current events. Go swimming, go hiking, go
shopping, go sightseeing; take a cruise on a historic windjammer for a few hours or
a full week, but most of all go to the Mid-Coast Region.

Greater Portland and Casco Bay
|
Portland, Maine's largest city, lies on a promontory
with water on three sides where visitors will find a friendly, small-town
atmosphere. Portland is large enough to support an exciting cultural scene, yet is
small enough to navigate by foot. The city is reputed to have the greatest number
of restaurants per capita, second only to San Francisco. The region is host to
numerous museums, historic sites, old-fashioned streetlights, brick sidewalks,
boutiques, and restaurants. A combination of outdoor and indoor recreation for
the entire family.
